ČEZ group: The first floating photovoltaic power plant on the upper reservoir of a pumped-storage hydroelectric plant
Floating photovoltaics on the upper reservoir of the Štěchovice pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant was put into operation in January 2022. The purpose was to test its operation precisely in the pumping mode, when the water level is constantly fluctuating. The original output of 21.6 kWp was expanded to 87 kWp last autumn, and this spring the float was connected to the distribution network and currently supplies emission-free electricity. Photovoltaics on water reservoirs do not take up valuable land. The panels cool better near the water surface, increasing their efficiency, reducing water evaporation and helping to maintain and improve its quality.
